The long-expected development of the “Taco PUD” at the southeast corner of South Lamar Boulevard and West Riverside Drive has taken shape over the last two years since the 2019 start of work on the eight-story hotel and condo project known as the Loren at Lady Bird Lake, and though the building at 211 South Lamar Boulevard isn’t expected to open until June 2022, as of today 23 of the building’s 24 units are officially under contract, according to its sales team at Moreland Properties.
The final residence, a rare 4 bedroom / 4.5 bathroom unit clocking in at 3,511 square feet, remains on the market for $4.85 million — so tell your friends!
The 0.93-acre site, formerly home to a Taco Cabana despite its scenic position only steps from the lake’s south shore, was originally slated for a 175-unit residential project by California firm Post Investment Group and Dallas-based Ascension Development back in 2013, but after weathering a contentious though ultimately successful rezoning process the development team sold the property to former Major League Baseball pitcher Huston Street and his mother, Janie Street, who sat on the site until Street’s retirement from professional baseball in 2018.
A reconfigured version of the original project, which retained its architects at local firm Rhode Partners but switched to a mix of hotel, condo, and retail use rather than residential and retail alone, broke ground in 2019 — and despite the impact of a thoroughly unexpected pandemic, the Loren project officially topped out earlier this summer, roughly a year before the full building’s scheduled delivery date.
The Loren’s hotel component will be the second by New York-based Loren Hotel Group, which opened its flagship Loren at Pink Beach resort in Bermuda back in 2017. The hotel will reportedly include a rooftop restaurant and bar along with its pool deck, all taking advantage of the site’s impressively situated and unobstructed view.
Below, you’ll find a live webcam view of current progress on the Loren’s construction — not to mention a pretty ace view of the nearly-finished Block 185 tower off in the distance, which will make you grateful for the zoom feature:
