Here’s a New View of Canopy by Hilton, West Sixth Street’s First Boutique Hotel

We’ve known the Canopy by Hilton boutique hotel brand had a new location in the planning stages at 612 West Sixth Street since last summer, but until today, we didn’t have any idea what to expect from a hotel designed for such an active commercial and nightlife district — I mean, this site is literally sandwiched between two bars.

Now, it seems we have a slightly better idea of how it fits — the illustration above is the first I’ve seen of the building’s design, which comes to us courtesy of the architects at Lake Flato, who are also designing a Canopy by Hilton hotel location in San Antonio.

It appears from the picture that the hotel will be six stories tall, with an interior courtyard space that’s probably designed to insulate guests from as much barhopper noise as possible — talk about a never-ending battle.

The hotel will house 140 guestrooms, including five suites. Guests will be welcomed via an intimate lobby and a laidback open-air courtyard surrounded by natural materials and greenery. The bar and lounge concept Canopy Central will frame the courtyard and provide several seating options from sidewalk dining to cozy fireside enclaves. The pooldeck will serve as an elevated front porch, appointed with loungers and a bar pavilion. A fitness center will also be included onsite.

According to a press release, the hotel’s official name is Canopy by Hilton Austin Downtown, and its grand opening is planned for January 2020.

UPDATE: On June 21, the Austin Business Journal published a story with new renderings of the Canopy by Hilton project bound for 612 West Sixth Street, which according to the story plans to break ground on construction in July.

Here’s a look at the renderings:
