We received the video below from a fan of the site who was lucky enough to take a helicopter ride low over downtown Austin and the West Campus area earlier this month. We don’t often see downtown from this perspective, and it’s a great way to see progress on some of the towers currently underway — the Independent, now topped out, looks particularly impressive from up here.
(Also, sorry about the vertical/portrait mode video — no, we’re not trying to be WorldStar, we just didn’t shoot this ourselves. It’s still neat.)
For comparison’s sake, here’s an aerial photo of downtown Austin from a similar angle as part of the video, taken in 1963 — that’s 55 years ago:
